Rod Moore Sketchbook Skills Workshop 25 & 26th February, 2023

ROD MOORE “IMPROVE YOUR SKETCHBOOK SKILLS” Workshop  25th & 26th February, 2023.      POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE!

Join contemporary Impressionist artist, Rod Moore for a two day workshop focusing on small studies in your Sketchbook.

Rod will walk you through the basics of how to capture the essence of a scene in your Sketchbook whilst on location. You can use any medium that is suitable for Sketchbook work in this workshop. Rod will demonstrate in pencil and Gouache.

The beauty of using your Sketchbook to capture small studies and information on location is that it takes the pressure of having to do a finished painting. Small studies in your sketchbook can be completed in 10 – 15 minutes so you can do multiple studies in the time it normally takes to complete a painting.

Day 1 – On the first day we will meet at BICAC for brief introduction and welcome, before we venture out to to spend most of the morning on location at Bribie. Rod will focus on subject selection, composition, and design. Good composition is the starting point of good painting. Rod will share with you his approach to selecting a subject and the value of doing thumbnail sketches to decide on the best composition. We will break for lunch at a local Cafe or park then return back to the studio for a wrap up of the days activities

Day 2 – Building on what we learned in day one we will meet again on different location where you will learn how to get your values and colours right. Values create the illusion of depth and atmosphere and colour brings the painting to a successful conclusion. Lunch will be in a park or Cafe….

Developing your skills at using your Sketchbook will greatly improve your painting. When you collect reference materials in your Sketchbook you will always have inspiration to draw on when you are back in your studio.

WHAT THE STUDENTS ARE SAYING
” I recently attended a 3-day sketchbook workshop at the Gold Coast with artist Rod Moore. Each day we went to a new location and Rod painted a demo, then we painted our own impression of the scene.  He advised on composition, shapes, colour and values and I learned so much. I would highly recommend Rod’s classes and would definitely attend another workshop with him. Anne”
